The 2012 Porch Crawl committee has kicked off plans for this year’s BACD Porch Crawl. We had a great turn-out for last year’s inaugural event with over 100 neighbors joining in the fun. We will have 5 parties at 5 houses in 5 hours, spending one hour at each home starting on Llano and ending on Belmont. This year, we’ll have a music theme with each street creating a party around a type of music. In addition to food, wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks, there will be a raffle at each house.

Look for more details in a few weeks, but in the meantime WE NEED YOUR HELP! We need sponsors and donations to defer some of the costs of the party. If you or your company are able to help with donations of beer, wine, food or raffle prizes, please let us know. If we can’t use your donation on your street, we can probably make use of it on one of the others, so don’t hesitate to offer. Donors and sponsors will be listed on our website and in the flyers that will be sent to the entire neighborhood.

We will also have numerous volunteer slots available. You don’t have to work the entire event, but if you could volunteer to work one slot at one house, this would be a big help! We need volunteers to help with setup and clean-up, sign-in, running the raffle and herding folks to the next house. You can also help by joining with your street host and street captain to help plan your streets event. Feel free to drop any of us a note if you’d like to join in:

This year’s Fall Party was one of the best ever! We decided that we didn’t need to do as much fund raising this year, so we skipped the silent auction. Instead, we added a wine pull which sold out in minutes. We hope to have a bigger wine pull next year. Partiers also played “Neighbor Bingo” where they had to find and meet people to fill squares on their board. We’ll bring that back next year too.

The planning team decided that this year, we would donate proceeds to RE Lee, our Exemplary-rated neighborhood Elementary school. In total, we raised $772.31 after expenses. From this we donated $216 to purchase plant markers for the school’s teaching garden project. We also have pledged another $1500 to purchase a trophy case in coordination with the RE Lee PTA.

Winner of the Chili Cook-off this year was Marla Pittman. Second place went to Russ Pate and third to Darren Dattalo. Shoshanna Adelmann won the Sugary Showdown for the fourth year in a row with Harley Cozewith taking second place.

It is that time of year again fellow Llanoans, Velascites, Palo Pintoans, Goliadans, and Belmontonians.  Fall Party is going to be held on November 6, 2011 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the corner of Palo Pinto and Delmar.  Past Fall Parties are remembered fondly and it is a great way to catch up with your neighbors, meet new ones, and talk about neighborhood issues… plus the food and drinks. 

This year, we have some new activities planned like the pet parade, scavenger hunt and a wine cork pull; but, we will not have the silent auction.  We will still do a little fund raising through the other activities.  This year all funds raised at Fall Party will go toward a BACD sponsored project at Robert E. Lee Elementary.  Our own Robert E. Lee was recently honored as an “Exemplary” school, and we’d like to support its success! 

Families should join in as we will have children’s’ activities, including a bounce house.  Though, don’t be surprised to see a few adults in there (Philip, Blane).

Chili Cook-Off

The always popular Chili-Cook-off.  All you need to do is bring your chili and something to serve it with.  We’ll have the fixins.  If you plan to bring a chili, please drop Michele Hille an email to let her know at  Hille.michele@gmail.com

Sugary Showdown

Got a sweet tooth?  Bring your delicious dessert for the Sugary Showdown.  Cut it into small servings on the day of the event.  Harley Cozewith is our coordinator for the sugary delights.  Send her an email at Harley@cozewith.com if you plan on bringing a dessert.

Brew Show-off

If you homebrew, bring some of your concoction to share.  Blane Balch will participate with his famous brews; but, I am sure he would appreciate some company.   Beer, wine, homemade hooch.  All are welcome.

Pet Parade

The Pet Parade will be at 3 pm, so have fluffy ready to go (friendly pets only please).  Put a costume on your pet and enter him, her, or it in the Pet Parade.  The Pet Parade will be catwalk style, so submit your blurb about your pet to Melissa at belmontaddition@yahoo.com
